I’m experimenting with smaller sized sculptures. This pug is a mock up for a mold. I’ve yet to do the finish work smoothing out the tool marks because I might make some changes. I also might try casting them in concrete and staining them instead of casting in plaster and painting them. That is why I’ve sculpted the pupil in the eye already. If made out of concrete they could be garden pugs.
When the castings were solid they were quite heavy, so this is the new system to make them semi-hollow and cut down the weight.
I just finished painting these three guys today and listed them in my Etsy Shop.
My new mold turned out well. Here it is with the first casting. This is the casting before I’ve done any cleanup. He’s a heavy little guy. Now I’m making a second part of the mold that will make the next casting hollow so it won’t be so heavy.
